How it works

  1. 1Enter your built-up area and how many floors you are planning.
  2. 2Turn on a section and check the quantities — change any that look wrong.
  3. 3Put in the rates your supplier quoted. The totals update as you go.
  4. 4Skip the sections you have not priced yet and come back to them later.

Common questions

Why does it not just tell me the cost?

Because nobody honestly can. Published rates for the same house range from ₹1,500 to ₹5,500 per square foot depending on the city and the source. A number picked out of that range would be a guess dressed up as an answer. Enter the rates you have actually been quoted and the total becomes real.

Where do the quantities come from?

Published thumb rules, shown with the range each one came from. They disagree with each other by a lot — one source says five bricks per square foot, another says eleven. Each line shows the actual sum too, so "0.42 bags per sq ft × 4,000 sq ft = 1,680 bags" is there for you to check rather than take on faith.

Why does it fill in quantities but not rates?

Because a quantity follows from your area and a rate does not. Four thousand square feet needs roughly the same cement whether you build in Chennai or a village, but the price of that cement is not remotely the same. Guessing the rate for you would quietly produce a wrong total, so it stays at zero until you put a real number in.

What do cft, nos and running feet mean?

Tap the underlined unit next to any quantity and it explains itself. Briefly: cft is a box one foot on each side, used for sand and jelly; nos just means how many pieces; running feet is length measured along the front, used for kitchen counters.

What are the three finish levels for?

The same house costs very differently depending on what goes into it. Set each section separately — premium tiles in the hall and basic ones in the utility is exactly how people actually build. The three totals at the top show what happens if everything were set to one level, which is useful when you are deciding where to spend.

Is the total complete?

Only if you have turned on every section. Until then the running total tells you how many are missing, so you never mistake a partial figure for the full one.

Can I use this to check a contractor's quotation?

That is the best use for it. Put in the quantities and rates from the quotation and see whether each section lands where it normally does. If flooring is coming to twenty percent of the job when it is usually eight, that is the line worth asking about.

Does it include the land or interiors?

Land, no — that is separate entirely. Interiors are the last section, and it is deliberately open-ended: you list what you want with your own prices, because a sofa can cost fifteen thousand or two lakh and no calculator can guess which one you will buy.
