How do I work backwards from a price that already includes GST?
Use the Remove GST tab. Dividing by 1.18 for an 18 percent rate gives the base price, and the difference is the tax. Subtracting 18 percent from the total is a common mistake and gives the wrong answer.
When is it CGST and SGST instead of IGST?
CGST and SGST apply when the supplier and the place of supply are in the same state, each taking half the rate. For inter-state supply the full rate is charged as IGST instead.
