What Speaker Cleaner does

Muffled after a splash?. A low, pulsing tone shakes the speaker so trapped water can work its way out — no app to install.

  • Water mode (165 Hz) and Dust mode
  • 30 seconds, 1 minute or 2 minutes
  • Honest guidance on when to stop and get it checked

How it works

  1. 1Turn the phone so the speaker faces down and set the volume to about 70%.
  2. 2Pick Water or Dust mode and how long to run it.
  3. 3Tap start and keep the phone still while the tone plays.
  4. 4Listen to something afterwards. Still muffled? Run one or two more rounds, then let it dry.

Common questions

Does a speaker cleaner tone actually work?

It can help after a light splash. The low tone makes the speaker move back and forth, which can push small drops out of the grille. It is not a repair: if sound stays crackly after a few rounds, or the phone was in salt water, have it checked.

Why 165 Hz?

It is a low frequency that phone speakers can still play strongly, so the speaker moves a lot without needing full volume. Apple Watch uses the same idea in its Water Lock feature.

Should I turn the volume all the way up?

No. About 70% is enough. Playing low tones at full volume for a long time can strain a small speaker.

I hear nothing on my iPhone.

Check that the volume is up and silent mode is off. Newer iOS versions play the tone even in silent mode, older ones may not.

Can I charge my phone while it is wet?

No. Let the phone dry completely, port facing down, before charging it.
