What Screen Test does

Check a screen in two minutes. Handy before you buy a used phone or laptop, or when something on the screen looks off.

  • Ten full-screen colours, with what to look for on each
  • Touch grid that shows any area that doesn't respond
  • Measured refresh rate, not just the spec

How it works

  1. 1Wipe your screen and turn the brightness up.
  2. 2Tap "Start colour test" and look closely at each colour. Tap or press → for the next one.
  3. 3On a phone or tablet, run the touch test and drag your finger over every square.
  4. 4Check the refresh rate and the screen details at the bottom.

Common questions

What is the difference between a dead and a stuck pixel?

A dead pixel stays black, so it shows up best on white. A stuck pixel stays one colour — red, green or blue — so it shows up best on black. A stuck pixel sometimes clears by itself after a few days; a dead pixel usually doesn't.

Why does it show 60 Hz on my 120 Hz phone?

Battery saver, low-power mode or the browser can limit the rate. Turn battery saver off, plug in, and press Measure again. On a computer, also check the refresh rate in your display settings.

A square in the touch test never fills. Is my screen broken?

Try that spot a few times with a clean, dry finger and remove any thick screen protector. If it still never fills, that part of the touch screen may not be responding.

Is this useful when buying a used phone or laptop?

Yes — open this page on the device and run the colour and touch tests. It takes about two minutes and catches the most common screen faults.
