How it works
- 1Start with a low volume, especially with headphones.
- 2Play Left and Right to check each side comes from the right place.
- 3Run the sweep and note where the sound starts, rattles or fades out.
- 4Use the single tones to check bass or a specific buzz.
Common questions
Left and right are swapped. What now?
Check that headphones are worn the right way round (look for L and R marks). On a computer, check the balance setting in your sound settings.
I can't hear the top of the sweep. Is my speaker broken?
Probably not. Many adults can't hear above about 15–17 kHz, and small speakers roll off at the top too. Try headphones to compare.
Why is there almost no sound at 30 Hz on my phone?
Phone and laptop speakers are too small to play very deep bass. Headphones and larger speakers usually can.
Is anything recorded?
No. The tones are generated in your browser and nothing is recorded or uploaded.
