What Mouse Test does

Find out what is wrong with your mouse. Double-clicks on their own, drags that drop files halfway, a wheel that jumps — see it happen and know why.

  • Hold test that shows every moment a drag let go
  • Double-click faults timed in milliseconds
  • Scroll test that marks each step that went the wrong way

How it works

  1. 1Click every mouse button inside the top box and watch it light up.
  2. 2If a double-click fault shows, test again with slow single clicks to be sure.
  3. 3Run the hold test: hold the left button and draw until the timer ends.
  4. 4Scroll down slowly in the strip, then up, and look for red steps.

Common questions

Why do my files drop halfway while I drag them?

The left button is letting go for a split second while you still hold it. The hold test shows each time this happens. It is usually a worn switch inside the mouse, and cleaning rarely fixes it.

My mouse double-clicks when I click once. What does the test show?

Two clicks closer than about 60 milliseconds come from the switch, not your finger. The test counts these and shows the gap, so you know it is the mouse and not a setting.

Why does my page jump up when I scroll down?

Most often dust in the wheel sensor. Blow air around the wheel while spinning it, then run the scroll test again. On wireless mice, a weak battery can cause it too.

Will the Back and Forward buttons take me off this page?

No. While you are on this page the mouse Back and Forward buttons are only counted, so you can test them safely. The browser's own back arrow still works.
